Emergency Water Purification

Protocol to make non-potable water safe for human consumption after a natural disaster or grid failure.

Critical alert

DANGER: Clear water can still contain invisible pathogens. Always filter before disinfecting.

1

Coarse Filtration

Pass water through a clean cloth, bandana, or sand layer to remove sediment and floating particles.

2

Boiling (Primary Method)

Bring water to a rolling boil for at least 1 full minute (3 minutes above 2,000 m / 6,500 ft elevation) to destroy bacteria and viruses.

3

Chemical Disinfection (Alternative)

If fire is unavailable, add 2 drops of unscented household bleach per liter of clear water. Mix well and wait 30 minutes before drinking.
