Emergency Fire Ignition

How to generate and maintain fire for thermoregulation and cooking without conventional tools.

Critical alert

OPSEC / SAFETY: Never light fire inside a sealed shelter without ventilation (carbon monoxide).

1

Tinder Preparation

Collect ultra-dry materials: scraped birch bark, dry grass, or cotton. Form a compact bird's nest.

2

Spark Generation

Hold a ferrocerium rod at 45 degrees to the tinder nest. Scrape firmly downward to project high-temperature sparks (3000°C) into the center of the nest.

3

Gradual Feeding

When an ember appears, blow gently to create a flame. Immediately add needle-sized twigs, then progressively increase size (tipi fire lay).
